Our Mission
The St. Landry Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness (SLPOEP) is the central coordinating agency for emergency and disaster activities within the parish. Our mission is to protect the lives, property, and infrastructure of St. Landry Parish residents from all hazards - working across all four phases of emergency management: Preparedness, Mitigation, Response, and Recovery.
We work in partnership with local, state, and federal agencies to build a prepared, resilient community capable of meeting the challenges of natural or man-made disasters.

What We Do
- Serve as the central point for emergency planning within the parish
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive All-Hazards Emergency Operations Plan
- Plan and participate in emergency drills, exercises, and training with parish stakeholders
- Activate and manage the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during declared emergencies
- Coordinate with local, state, and federal partners to ensure a seamless response
- Support public awareness and education programs on emergency preparedness
- Provide emergency situational awareness information and timely warnings to the public
- Coordinate outside assistance during emergencies, including FEMA resources
- Develop programs to prevent disasters where possible and reduce vulnerability where they cannot be prevented
- Assist with recovery efforts in the aftermath of emergencies and disasters
Hazard Mitigation Plan
St. Landry Parish maintains a Hazard Mitigation Plan in accordance with federal guidelines. This plan identifies the parish's greatest risks and establishes strategies to reduce the long-term impact of natural and man-made disasters on our community.
Legal Authority
The authority, roles, and responsibilities of the St. Landry Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness - including those of the Parish President and the Director - are established under Louisiana state law. Specifically, the Louisiana Homeland Security and Emergency Assistance and Disaster Act (La. R.S. 29:721 through La. R.S. 29:739) governs emergency management functions at the local level.
