ST. LANDRY PARISH – St. Landry Parish Government has been awarded $500,000 for the Louisiana Community Development Block Grant Clearance application. These funds will remove approximately 90 blighted structures throughout the parish.

The LCDBG Program is designed to assist local governments in addressing conditions that pose a direct threat to public welfare. In St. Landry Parish, the targeted clearance of abandoned and dilapidated properties will help eliminate public health hazards, support future community development and revitalization efforts.

“We are grateful for this opportunity to move our parish forward and improve our neighborhoods,” said Parish President Jessie Bellard. “Blighted properties affect everyone because they bring down property values, discourage investment, and create unsafe conditions. With these funds, we can make a real difference, especially in our underserved and low-income areas.”

The project will prioritize structures located in areas that have been identified as blight-heavy, with special focus on neighborhoods where residents are of low to moderate income. The initiative also aligns with ongoing parish efforts to promote economic development and enhance infrastructure.

Additional details regarding the implementation of this program, including a schedule of structure removals and community input opportunities, will be announced in the coming weeks. All residents, particularly those of low and moderate income and residents of blighted areas of St. Landry Parish, are encouraged to contact our main office at (337) 948-3688 with any questions.
