St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard announced three new programs to help parish residents move toward homeownership this week and is encouraging citizens to call the parish government offices and take advantage of the latest programs.

“Our office is here to help our residents, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Community Outreach Office for information, including learning more about the eligibility requirements to participate in these programs,” said Bellard. “We’re happy to help and are always looking for ways to improve the quality of life in St. Landry Parish.”

The parish’s new Community Outreach program is available to assist citizens with applying for the three US Department of Agriculture Rural Development loan programs for home buyers and housing repairs.

The Single-Family Housing Repair Loans and Grants program, or Section 504 Home Repair program, provides loans to low-income homeowners to repair, improve or modernize their homes or grants to elderly, low-income homeowners to remove health and safety hazards.

The Single-Family Home Loan Guarantees helps approved lenders 100 percent financed no-money-down mortgage loans to eligible low- and moderate-income applicants.

Also new to the parish is the Rural Home Loans (Direct programs), or the 502 Direct Loan Program, which helps low and very low-income applicants buy decent, safe, and sanitary housing in eligible rural areas by providing payment assistance to increase their applicant’s repayment ability.

Interested residents should make an appointment with the parish government to discuss the programs and eligibility. To make an appointment or to learn more about the programs, call 337-948-3688, ext. 1815, or visit the parish offices in the St. Landry Parish Courthouse at 118 South Court Street, Suite 133 in Opelousas.
