OPELOUSAS, LA – In response to recent concerns from the community regarding animal control, St. Landry Parish Government will be holding a press conference to address concerns surrounding the shelter. The press conference will take place on Monday, January 23, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the St. Landry Parish Courthouse, Suite 34

Dr. Kim Sanders, who was contracted out by the Bissell Foundation, will be available to answer questions and provide information on current animal control practices and policies. Dr. Sanders will be discussing her plans for restructuring the shelter to improve the welfare of the animals.

Additionally, Parish President Jessie Bellard will address the issues that the Parish Government is facing and updates on the accomplishments of the investigations department since its inception. He will also be discussing any improvements or changes that have been made in response to community concerns. Bellard will also address his silence on recent social media concerns and provide more information on the department’s actions to address the situation.

“We understand the concerns of the community and take them seriously. We want to assure our residents that we are committed to providing safe and humane care for all animals under our jurisdiction,” said Bellard. “but don’t believe everything you read online, because there is always more to the story.”
